Lisbon & Beyond
My Love Letter to the City of Light & Layers
Green Street & Alfama Mornings
Waking up in Alfama is like waking up inside a painting cobbled streets, laundry swaying above you, the hum of Fado music somewhere in the distance. I love starting slow here, with a coffee in hand and no real agenda. Then there’s Green Street (Rua Verde), a tucked-away alley with ivy-covered buildings and a soft hush that feels cinematic.
sunset Sail & Sips of Ginjinha
A standout moment? A sunset sail ride on the Tagus River. The breeze, the golden light hitting the bridge, the view of Lisbon from the water it’s the kind of scene that doesn't need a filter.
Later, it’s Ginjinha shots from a tiny street-side bar, preferably with locals who laugh at your reaction to that first sweet, cherry kick. One is never enough. Two is usually too many. And that’s kind of the charm.
Parks, Picnics & Pastéis
Lisbon is dotted with pockets of green perfect for picnics or an unplanned pause. I’ve had lazy afternoons in Jardim do Príncipe Real, sharing a bottle of vinho verde and fresh cheese, people-watching as the sun softened everything.
No matter how many times I go, I always make a stop in Belém for a warm pastel de nata. No trip is complete without it. The line is worth it.
Just trust me.
Lisbon is the kind of city that gently tugs at you to return and I’ve answered the call three times now. Each trip has revealed a new layer: winding alleyways, pastel rooftops, wine-soaked afternoons, and golden sunsets that seem to pause time. Whether I’m vintage shopping in the backstreets or dancing through a rooftop dinner,
Lisboa always delivers.
Here’s a look inside my personal highlights and a few unforgettable day trips that round out the perfect Portuguese escape.
